Jewelry box, 'Golden Deer'

Inspired by the Ramayana, Ketut Sandi carves the fabled golden deer on the lid of this alluring jewelry box. In the legendary epic, the deer is the knight Marica in disguise, sent by the evil king Rawhana to lure Sita and thus kidnap her. The Ramayana tells of her triumphant rescue by her beloved husband Rama. Sandi carves the box from kepelan wood using manual tools that allow for the box's refined artistry.
